complete literacy task template tiger

Reading/Literacy specialists select, adapt, design, and evaluate cross-content instructional plans to meet students’ needs. These instructional plans include evidence-based instructional approaches and culturally diverse informational and narrative texts that develop reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing and critical thinking skills of all students.

For this benchmark assignment, redesign one of the content area teacher’s lesson plans from one of the 3-5 day unit lesson plans from the Topic 3 Clinical Field Experience. The lesson plan should also reflect recommendations for evidence-based literacy instructional approaches and materials made in Topic 4.

Use the “COE Lesson Plan Template” to redesign the lesson. Include the following in your template:

  • At least 2-3 ELA college and career standards, in addition to the content-specific standards, to support your revisions.
  • A minimum of 2-3 cross-curricular instructional approaches to teach and evaluate, using both informational and narrative texts, that meet the literacy needs of the whole class, as well as groups of students.
  • Evidence of how instructional approaches support each of the following:
    • Reading comprehension
    • Vocabulary
    • Writing
    • Critical thinking

Write a 250-500 word reflection discussing the importance of an integrated, comprehensive, and balanced curriculum for secondary students. Explain how you applied culturally responsive best practices to literacy instruction in your lesson plan. Describe how you designed the instruction to include the implementation of the values of cultural diversity, and how they reflect the Christian worldview in their schools and in society. Explain how you applied specific theories for diverse students, as well as equity to literacy instruction in your lesson plan.

Support your reflection with 3-5 scholarly resources.
