reading review assignment
Directions: The purpose of this assignment is for you to demonstrate your knowledge of the required course material: chapters 6-9 & 13 of the Scott text and other required readings. Therefore, outside sources are to be limited to information for examples. Each response should be 2-3 well-developed paragraphs in length (200-350 words), written in your own words.
Please use the Chicago Manual of Style (available through the Library website) for all citations and other document formatting. The assignment will be graded using the Review Assignment Rubric posted in Canvas. (125 points)
Reminder: Your assignment will automatically be sent to Turnitin when you submit it in Canvas. Therefore, I highly recommend that you submit it a day or two early to determine if all material has been properly cited. This will provide time for you to correct any citation errors that may occur.
Questions:
1.Explore the advantages and disadvantages of the natural law and positivism foundations for international law. As a follow-up, does either seem to be ‘better’ suited to the particular dynamics and characteristics of international law?
2.Thoroughly discuss the positive and negative aspects of multilateral treaties as effective instruments of international law. As a follow-up, what role(s), if any, might non-state actors play in minimizing the negative aspects that you have identified?
3.Identify and use any recent event or situation pertaining to international law (not included in Scott Chapter 7) and discuss it in the context of international law and political maneuvering. That is, what is the interplay between law and politics in this situation? Please include comments on the “rulebook v. indeterminacy†tensions.
